Caroline MacCallum
Caroline MacCallum is a Breast Surgeon at Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and Peninsula University Hospital. Caroline obtained her medical degree at the University of Melbourne, followed by completing a Masters of Surgery at the University of Melbourne. She completed her General Surgery training through Royal Melbourne Hospital. Caroline finished sub-specialty training in Breast Surgery through Post-Fellowship Training at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester United Kingdom, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Caroline is currently a Breast Cancer Trials Clinical Fellow. She has a special research interest in very early breast cancer, in particular the use of contrast-based breast imaging in diagnosis, staging, and formulation of appropriate treatment plans. She currently leads a research project at the Melbourne Health assessing the impacts of contrast-based breast imaging in local staging of screen-detected cancer and has presented her research in the US, Europe and Australia. Caroline is also leading the Australian arm of a study looking into avoiding endocrine therapy in low-risk early breast cancer; she is collaborating with colleagues in Japan, Korea and Taiwan for this project.
